It’s a cruel fact of life that some of the most delicious foods are often protected by some kind of barrier, and trying to get to the treasure within can turn into an odyssey in and of itself. So thank goodness for these 7 tried and true food peeling hacks for everything from almonds to kiwis!
1. Lychees
Pierce a toothpick through a lychee near the stalk and twist it until the skin comes off. Then squeeze out the flesh.
2. Bell Peppers
Halve a bell pepper and remove the core and insides in one fell swoop by scooping out the core with a spoon.
3. Red Onions
Cut off the ends of the onion and then cut a segment out of the outer layer – now you’ll be able to peel the skin off in one go.
4. Eggs
Wrap a boiled egg in tape, apply a little bit of pressure to the egg, and roll it back and forth to break the shell. Once you remove the tape, the shell will stick to it and you’ll have a peeled egg.
5. Kiwis
Cut off both ends of the kiwi, insert a small spoon in between the skin and flesh, and separate them by twisting the spoon all the way around.
6. Mangoes
Take a coin and rub it over the surface of the mango, applying light pressure, to soften the flesh underneath. Then slit the mango with a toothpick and pull the peel from the flesh with your hands.
7. Almonds
Place the almonds in a bowl and pour hot water over them. Once the water has cooled, you can easily peel off the skin with your fingers.
These hacks are super easy, quick, and fun – and the best part is you don’t need any fancy kitchen equipment. Everything you need, you already have, we promise! Now peel away!
