Be it in the practical salt shaker or in the cardboard packaging: Salt can be found in pretty much every household. But instead of just cooking with it, you can do much more unusual things with it, which on the one hand look great, but are also extremely practical:
1.) Decoration tree
For this you need:
- Craft cardboard (A4)
- pencil
- Craft knife
- red food coloring
- Monopotassium phosphate
That is how it goes:
1.1) Draw the outlines of two trees on a cardboard box with a pencil. Then mark the center of one of the two trunks lengthways with a narrow rectangle.
1.2) Now cut out the trees and the narrow rectangle using a cutter knife.
1.3) Now paint the treetops on one side with food coloring; After drying, paint the back as well and wait until it has dried too.
Then, interlock the trees by sliding the slotted tree over the other.
1.4) Place the decorative tree in a bowl or on a plate and pour monopotassium phosphate over it.
Tip: You can get monopotassium phosphate, also known as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, from pharmacies or flower shops. It is usually sold as a powder that you can then simply dissolve in water.
1.5) During the next 24 hours you can watch your decorative tree bloom, isn’t that cool?
2.) Laundering money
For this you need:
- 1 glass of vinegar
- 1 medium bowl of salt
That is how it goes:
Fill a glass with vinegar and add the salt. Then dip a dirty coin into it and rub the two surfaces for a few seconds. When you take the coin out again, it shines in a completely new shine.
3.) Oil-salt experiment
For this you need:
- 1 glass of water
- oil
- 4 drops of food coloring
- salt
That is how it goes:
3.1 Fill a glass about three quarters of the way with water and fill the last quarter with oil.
3.2) Wait until the oil has settled on top and then add three drops of the food coloring.
3.3) If you now pour salt into the glass, you will experience a spectacle that you will never forget.
Both the blossoming tree and the oil-salt experiment are great for doing with children. But clean coins are also extremely practical, because you will always find the right coin straight away because it shines so brightly in your wallet.
