The impact of a striking pair of high heels cannot be overstated. Even if your outfit of the day consists of a pair of jeans and a white T-shirt, you can still serve in a major way once you put on some cute heels. However, if we’re being honest, most of the high heels we come into contact with aren’t much to write home about in terms of aesthetics. They just tend to look a little lackluster, with no patterns or fun colors to elevate them into true superstar status. That’s where we come in: we’ve come up with 5 awesome ways to pimp up your boring high heels that are both easy to execute and affordable, even if you’re on a shoestring budget! Just grab an old pair of heels and give one of these hacks a try!
1. Shoe With Lace
You’ll Need:
- lace
- decoupage glue
- sponge
- scissors
- paintbrush
- ribbon
Here’s How:
1.1 Use a sponge to dab decoupage glue on the shoe and put the piece of lace on top.
1.2 Trim the excess lace, then cover the heel with lace as well. Fold the edges of the lace over the edges of the shoe so the entire back of the shoe is also covered in lace. Then, using a paintbrush, glue ribbon to the inside of the shoe.
2. Ankle Bow
You’ll Need:
- velcro
- ribbon
- scissors
- lighter
Here’s How:
2.1 This hack works best with open-toe sandals with an ankle strap. Start by gluing a piece of velcro to the ankle strap.
2.2 Tie the piece of fabric (a nice, wide silk or velvet ribbon works best) into a bow and singe the edges with a lighter so they don’t fray. Now glue the counterpart of the velcro to the back of the bow.
2.3 Attach the bow to the ankle strap.
3. Watermelon Sole
You’ll Need:
- nail polish (white, red, bright green, dark green)
- permanent marker
Here’s How:
3.1 Paint the sole with white nail polish.
3.2 Paint half the sole with red nail polish (including the heel).
3.3 Paint the remaining white part of the sole with both shades of green before adding a few black dots to the red nail polish.
4. Comic Shoe
You’ll Need:
- old comic books
- scissors
- decoupage glue
- sponge
Here’s How:
4.1 Cut the comic book into snippets.
4.2 Dab the decoupage glue on the shoe and glue the comic book snippets to it, making sure they overlap.
4.3 To finish off, brush the shoe with varnish to give it a nice shine and prevent the snippets from coming off.
5. Heart Toe
You’ll Need:
- parchment paper
- scissors
- pencil
- masking tape
- gold spray paint
Here’s How:
5.1 Put the piece of parchment paper on the shoe and make a cut on either side so the front part of the shoe is completely covered. Now draw a heart shape on it and cut it out.
5.2 Glue the negative to the shoe so only the tip of the shoe peeks out.
5.3 Spray paint the tip.
These DIY high heels are as far away from your standard run-of-the-mill pair as you can get. And that’s the way we like it! Old, boring high heels: sashay away. New, pimped up pumps: shantay you stay.
