3 sweet snacks for Easter

The same Easter eggs every year at Easter? That’s boring in the long run. Even if they taste good, are domestic tradition and already spread nostalgia, it is also time for something new. Today we’re going to show you 3 funky, sweet ideas for Easter snacks. A piñata egg with smarties, cute Easter figures on a stick made from rice krispies and pretty eggs made from jelly.

1. Piñata egg

Servings: 6 eggs
Preparation time: 60 min
Cooking time: 90 min
Difficulty level: heavy

For this you need:

  • 6 eggs size L (best hard-boiled, raw eggs only if you wash them with hot water and handle them carefully)
  • Cling film
  • Adhesive tape
  • 400 g white couverture
  • 300 g whole milk couverture
  • 150 g mini smarties
  • knife
  • Lighter

That is how it goes:

1.1 Wrap the eggs tightly with cling film and “seal” the film with an adhesive strip.

1.2 Melt the white chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Then dip the eggs wrapped in foil halfway into the white couverture. Then let the chocolate cool.

1.3 Melt the whole milk couverture and dip the eggs with the dried white chocolate halfway into the milk chocolate. Let the chocolate cool down as well.

1.4 Remove the cling film including the eggs from the locks and place them with the opening facing up on a glass. Fill half of the egg halves with smarties.

1.5 Heat a knife with a lighter, stroke it over the edges of the empty egg halves and place these egg halves on top of the egg halves filled with Smarties. Thanks to the melted edges, the two halves of the egg stick together.

2. Easter snacks from Rice Krispies

Servings: 4-6, depending on the size of the cookie cutter
Preparation time: 60 min
Cooking time: 60 min
Difficulty level: moderate

For this you need:

  • 20 g butter
  • 190 g marshmallows
  • 100 g Rice Krispies
  • 400 g colored couverture each
  • colorful sprinkles
  • Easter cookie cutter
  • 4 lollipop sticks
  • Baking tray, dimensions: approx 16 x 24 cm
  • Vegetable oil

That is how it goes:

2.1 Melt marshmallows with butter over a double boiler or in the microwave. Keep stirring the mixture until everything connects.

2.2 Add the Rice Krispies and mix everything together.

2.3 Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the rice krispies mixture on it. Feel free to use baking paper and a rolling pin so that everything is evenly distributed.

2.4 Brush the Easter cookie cutters with vegetable oil and use them to cut out the desired shapes from the mass.

2.5 Put lollipop sticks in the cut out molds and let everything harden. (Tip: Dip the lollipop sticks in melted chocolate beforehand, this will keep them in the rice krispies mixture).

2.6 Dip the Easter Rice Krispies in different colored melted chocolate and decorate them according to your taste.

3. Jello eggs

Servings: 6 eggs
Preparation time: 60 min (with waiting times, then let set completely overnight)
Cooking time: 300 min
Difficulty level: heavy

For this you need:

  • 6 eggs in size L.
  • 1/2 sachet each of jelly (6 g, red, yellow, green and blue)
  • 500 ml water (125 ml per color)
  • 40 g sugar (10 g per color)
  • 40 g natural yoghurt (10 g each color)

That is how it goes:

3.1 Score the thicker part of the eggs with a sharp, small knife and carefully break a small hole in the shell. Pound the skin with a toothpick, then use it to whisk the egg. Let the whisked egg flow out of the hole. When the eggs are empty, put the shells in a saucepan with water, bring them to a boil, and then let them dry.

3.2 Mix the respective jelly powder with sugar and hot water. Then always mix half of the jelly (of all colors) with 15 g of natural yoghurt each (in a separate bowl).

3.3 Place the dried eggshells in an egg carton with the hole facing up. (Tip 1: Fill the eggs with water and then weigh them in order to know roughly how much liquid will fit in an egg; Tip 2: Glue the eggs tightly to the box, then nothing can slip and filling is easier more evenly).

3.4 Now fill the first layer of blue jelly into the eggs and then put them in the cold. Then add a layer of blue yoghurt (then cool again). So the eggs are now gradually filled (green, yoghurt green, yellow, yoghurt yellow, red, yoghurt red). It is best to use a syringe to help you fill it. Let the eggs set completely overnight.

Oh how great are these Easter ideas! A nice change from the typical Easter egg or Easter bunny made of chocolate. Young and old are definitely looking forward to these Easter snacks. Happy Easter from the gourmet kitchen.
